제목: Carbon-Neutral Implementation Strategies and Methods for the Transition to a Low-Carbon Industrial Structure
내용: Recently, by announcing policies related to carbon neutrality worldwide, a “net-zero” scenario in which greenhouse gas (GHG) emission is equal to zero is being actively considered. Along with major countries, South Korea also announced the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and presented the GHG emission reduction target by 2050 in detail. Accordingly, for a successful transition to a “Carbon-Neutral Society”, it is urgently necessary to search for carbon emission sources in the industry and to remove and convert them. We define the role of “C1 gas refinery” in the current carbon-neutral policy and suggest the direction for CH4/CO conversion technology development by analyzing the NDC submitted by the current government in detail and classifying carbon emission sources. Furthermore, by introducing technologies and applications for bio-catalyst and chemical-catalyst research groups of C1 gas refinery, the potential for reduction of major carbon emission sources is specified. More specifically, the production of biodegradable plastic from CH4, the bio-catalytic CO-hydration system, non-oxidative coupling of methane, production of BTX from shale gas or methane, lactone derivative production from CO, and electrochemical CH4 conversion are included. Each research result has proven that it is possible to efficiently control carbon emission from various emission sources, and the future demonstration plan and technology transfer strategy to industry are discussed. This analysis supports the feasibility of the combined C1 gas refinery with the current industrial structure for eco- and energy-efficient technology that provides a promising alternative to “Carbon-Neutral Society”.
