제목: CRISPR/Cas9 technology and current applications
내용: Innovative genome engineering technology utilizing programmable nucleases, CRISPR/Cas9, enabled a fast and efficient editing of genetic information in various cells and organisms. Though CRISPR/Cas9 system is originated from a prokaryotic adaptive immune system, it is also can be used as a robust programmable nuclease platform for eukaryote, including human, crops and livestock, with high reliability and specificity. In biomedical fields, CRISPR/Cas9 system are expected to enable therapeutic genome editing for not only hereditary diseases but also numerous incurable diseases. In 2021, a few pioneering biotech companies already showed clinical trial results utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 system for cure human diseases. On the other hand, this technology can be used as an innovative molecular breeding tool for various plants and animals. Particularly, most of countries, including US, decided to deregulate genome edited crops, consequently, numerous scientist and companies are extensively use this technology to develop new variety of crops and finally the first CRISPR/Cas9 edited crop was commercialized. This presentation briefly overview the CRISPR/Cas9 technology itself and current trend of practical use of the technology.
