내용: Increases in renewable energy production and utilization are necessary to mitigate the increasing energy and environmental problems.
However, the intermittent and unpredictable nature of renewable energy production requires energy storage systems that effectively store renewable energy and make it available when needed. Hydrogen is considered as a clean renewable energy carrier because of its high gravimetric energy storage density (ca. 33.3kWh·kg-1).
Due to the low volumetric energy density of gaseous hydrogen (2.97 Wh·L-1@273 K & 1 atm), however, use of hydrogen for numerous energy applications particularly associated with high capacity and long distance hydrogen transportation is highly limited.
In the context, a safe and efficient hydrogen storage system capable of transporting large quantities of hydrogen in a chemical form has attracted significant attention.
Promising candidate materials for this purpose are liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) and ammonia (NH3) which allow hydrogen to be stored and released reversibly via chemical reactions. In the presentation, recent trends for chemical hydrogen storage technology utilizing LOHC and NH3 will be introduced.
